Documentary
Ngamanawa Incorporation & the hapū of Ngāti Hangarau are on a reclamation journey with a key emphasis on Tangata, Wai, and Whenua. Since the beginning of the 20th century the rivers and other surrounding water bodies have been used to generate electricity as part of the Hydro Electric Scheme which powers a significant portion of Tauranga City.
The key objectives of this documentary are to highlight the history of Falls and the connection between the hapū of Ngāti Hangarau and the significance this place holds for the people of the land. Since the beginning of the 20th century the rivers and other surrounding awa have been used to generate electricity as part of the Hydro Electric Scheme owned by Manawa Energy.

The Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) allocated nearly $7 million to enhance, renovate, and restore marae across Ruatāhuna, Ruatoki, and Waimana. Over six days, the production team visited 14 marae, engaging with mana whenua to document their unique perspectives on the PGF’s transformative journey and its significance to their communities.

Whakakotahitanga i te Kaupapa | Unity of Purpose, is a documentary capturing activity from a cultural exchange in November 2023 that aimed to discuss the challenges posed by myrtle rust in New Zealand and Australia. The eight-day visit highlighted the importance of sharing traditional knowledge held within indigenous communities as well as Western science, and how they each have a role to play in protecting our environment from exotic diseases, such as myrtle rust.

Tauranga Bridge Marina - Breakwater Construction Bellingham Marine & Tauranga Bridge Marina
Documentary
Tauranga Bridge Marina, in collaboration with Bellingham Marine, successfully completed the construction of a breakwater at the northern end of the marina to protect it from storm and wave damage. Māngai Media worked alongside both Bellingham Marine and Tauranga Bridge Marina throughout the project to document each phase of the construction, creating a visual representation of the process and capturing the milestones of the build.

The inaugural Te Arawa Haka Songhubs wānanga was launched in Rotorua, where some truly magical waiata and music came to life. This two-day wānanga brought together top kaihaka from Kapa Haka groups across Te Arawa to compose new anthems for the iwi and learn about music publishing rights in the process. Māngai Media had the privilege of documenting this incredible journey, capturing every moment of creativity, collaboration, and cultural significance.
Battle of Orakau - 160th Year Commemorations Ngāti Raukawa

This video captures the significance of the return of Ō-Rākau to Ngā Ahi e Toru (Raukawa, Maniapoto, Waikato-Tainui), highlighting the cultural and historical importance of restoring not just the whenua, but also the stories and memories of our tūpuna. It covers the introduction of the Te Pire mō Ō-Rākau Bill in Parliament, allowing whānau to add tūpuna names to the land title, and the ongoing effort to preserve and grow the legacy of Ō-Rākau, marking the 160th commemoration of the Battle of Ō-Rākau. Māngai Media had the privilege of being involved in documenting this important moment.
